A Laurens man was killed when his bicycle was hit by a car Wednesday evening (May 26th 2010) on highway ten about three-and-a-half miles east of Marathon. Buena Vista County Sheriff Gary Launderville says the 50-year-old… whose name hasn’t been released… was westbound and struck by a westbound car driven by 18-year-old Kelsey Fredricks of Marathon. Launderville says it’s believed Fredricks was unable to see the bicycle due to the blinding setting sun. Fredricks wasn’t injured. The bicyclist was taken by ambulance to the hospital in Pocahontas, where he was later pronounced dead. The accident happened about 8:00 Wednesday night. Assisting the sheriff’s department at the scene were the state patrol, Laurens police and fire departments and ambulance service, and the Pocahontas County sheriff’s department.
