Audubon County
Members of the Audubon County Conservation Board approached
the Audubon County Board of Supervisors with a request to
hold an organized bike ride through parts of Audubon
County, to be held in conjunction with this year’s T-Bone
celebration. Board members made this request at the March
29 Board of Supervisors meeting.
Gene Karstens, chairman of the ACCB, said either Nishna
Valley Trails or the Conservation Foundation would sponsor
the ride. The proposed route was to start at Albert the
Bull Park in Audubon, head south on the T-Bone Trail to
Highway 44, then east to N-36, or Pheasant Avenue, south to
Littlefield Drive, through Exira, then back north on the T-
Bone Trail to Audubon, for an approximate 30 mile ride.
Karstens said that the process of forming a ride started
with the board, as well as the Audubon County Sheriff, and
they were merely in the early stages of planning. “The
process starts with you fellas. We need your permission and
we also hope that you can take a look at N-36 and see what
if anything can be done to get it bike ready.”
Supervisor Todd Nelsen was somewhat hesitant, “The road
isn’t a bike trail, we’re not required to make it fit for
bicycles,” he said.
