WHO Staff Writer September 15, 2009 The man accused in the hit-and-run death of a Des Moines bicyclist is scheduled to be arraigned next week. Seventy-nine-year-old Paul McKinney turned himself in to the Warren County Sheriff's Office Monday. Prosecutors accuse McKinney of hitting and killing 54-year-old Mark Grgurich August 30th as he rode his bike along rural Highway G-14 near Cumming. If convicted on charges of leaving the scene of a fatality, destruction of evidence and failure to maintain control of his vehicle -- McKinney could face close to eight years in prison. McKinney's neighbors say because of age and health that might be severe. "I've heard people say he should be punished harshly and in his situation I have difficulty with that fact, I mean he has a disabled wife and he has problems of his own let alone what's happened to him now," says neighbor Judy Fontana. A judge set bail at $10,000 and scheduled McKinney's arraignment for September 22nd.
