Gary Fisher, a famed mountain bike maker will roll into
Iowa to host a series of events. Fisher is coming to Iowa
to support and expand bicycling – a state which is known by
bicyclists around the world for events like RAGBRAI.
Fisher is a pioneer in off-road bicycling, originally
designing the first mountain bike. Fisher continues to
innovate in bicycles with his own line of popular Gary
Fisher bicycles.
On Friday, January 23, Fisher will attend a screening of
Klunkerz – a movie about the birth of the mountain bike.
On Saturday, January 24, Fisher will attend a meet and
greet at Ramsey Subaru of Urbandale. On January 24th,
2009, the mountain biking legend Gary Fisher will speak at
the Iowa Bicycle Coalition's Bike Night Gala in Des Moines
at the Holiday Inn Downtown.
The Friday January 23rd movie screening of Klunkerz will
take place at the West Des Moines Learning Center, 3550
George Mills Civic Parkway in West Des Moines. Doors open
at 6 PM and the movie begins at 6:30 PM. A voluntary tax
deductible donation of $5 to the Iowa Bicycle Coalition is
requested.
The January 24th meet and greet will take place at Ramsey
Subaru, 9631 Hickman Rd in Urbandale. The meet and greet
features a continental breakfast and is open to the public.
The event will run from 8 – 9:30 AM. Come eat, and meet
Gary, and have a chance to win a new Fisher bike that will
be given away that morning by Ramsey Subaru.
Also Saturday morning January 24th from 11am to 2:30pm Bike
World West will host a "meet and greet" with "the man".
Come see Gary and the bikes that made him famous.
At 5 PM January 24th, the fourth annual Bike Night Gala
will kick off. The event raises funds that support bicycle
advocacy and safety education throughout Iowa. The event
includes dinner, a silent auction, and a talk by Gary
Fisher. Tickets to the event are $35 each. Online ticket
sales are limited to the first 200 people and the event is
expected to sell out quickly. As of 1/12/09 20 tickets
remain for the event.
The Iowa Bicycle Coalition builds partnerships, educates
Iowans, and helps to establish safe and enjoyable bicycle
transportation and recreation networks throughout Iowa.
The Coalition works with many communities across Iowa for
Safe Routes to School, a program to encourage kids to walk
or ride bicycles to school. In addition, the Coalition
coordinates the Iowa Bicycle Summit on January 23-24 in Des
Moines. The Summit is an education workshop for bicycling
advocates as well as transportation designers and
engineers.
