Each year Cityview asks their readers to give their unadulterated feedback as to the things they like and dislike about Des Moines. Cityview calls it their annual Best Of Des Moines readers poll, where tehy simply tally the number of votes readers cast for a variety of things including restaurants, bars, sports teams, bands, retail and media. Thousands of readers expressed their adoration and recognition for the things they like the best. Here are a few cycling related winners! CONGRATS!
Best Bike Trail - Greenbelt Trail Queen said it best: “Bicycle! Bicycle! Bicycle! I want to ride my bicycle, I want to ride my bike. I want to ride my bicycle, I want to ride it where I like.” Runners-up: Great Western Trail, Saylorville Lake
Best Bike Shop - Bike World Iowa Always a bridesmaid, never a bride. Bike World has consistently finished in second place in this category. But it finally made it to the top. The employees at Bike World don’t just sell bikes, they sell the biking lifestyle, with sections on their Web site dedicated to commuting to work by bike and offering classes in bike repair. Multiple locations. Runners-up: Rasmussen Bike Shop, Irwin’s Bike and Sports
Best Place To Do It In Public - Gray’s Lake Park We’re not sure city leaders and philanthropists had this in mind when they poured millions of dollars into beautifying Gray’s Lake Park, but one motto holds true about this perennial winner of best public place to shag: If you build it, they will come.
