Iowa's county supervisors have agreed to pressure state lawmakers to exempt counties from lawsuits involving bicycles on county roads. The decision follows a $350,000 settlement in a Crawford County lawsuit filed by the family of a man who died during the Register's Annual Great Bicycle Ride Across Iowa. The man lost control of his bicycle after it hit a crack in a Crawford County road. Crawford County did not admit fault in the lawsuit, but has decided to not let RAGBRAI use its roads in the future. They say it's financially impossible to maintain roads in a way that's not hazardous to bicycles.
