(Sunday bus service to begin in Greater Des Moines on October 14, 2007) The largest expansion of new bus service in the Greater Des Moines region in more than 30 years will take place on Sunday, October 14, 2007 as the Des Moines Area Regional Transit Authority (DART) begins its Sunday bus service. DART will provide Sunday Service on seven (7) regular routes from approximately 7:45 a.m. until 5:30 p.m. DART’s West Des Moines On Call and Bus Plus paratransit services will also be available during those times on Sundays beginning October 14. All passengers will ride for free on Sundays during the month of October. “The Sunday Service expansion is one of the first major service enhancements resulting from the regional transit initiative that created DART,” said DART Commission chair, Christine Hensley. “We’re very pleased to be providing service seven days week and will continue our efforts to further expand and improve our services to better meet the mobility needs of our residents.”

DART will host a ribbon-cutting ceremony, to celebrate the beginning of Sunday bus service, on Sunday, October 14, 2007 at 1:00 p.m. at Merle Hay Mall (east entrance). Opening remarks will be made by DART general manager Brad Miller, followed by brief comments from DART Commission vice chair Skip Conkling and Michael Barber president, National Federation of the Blind of Iowa.
