Deadline nears for Women Aware Bike Ride

Soiux City Pre-registration deadline for the Wheeling for Women Aware bicycle ride and separate family fun ride is June 15. Registrations postmarked by that date will guarantee a T-shirt, and save riders $5 to participate. The pre-registration cost for the choose-your-mileage routes is $25 per individual. To participate in the 10-mile family fun ride only, the individual fee is $15 and $25 for the immediate-family package. The day of the event begins with check-in and departure between 8 and 10 a.m. June 23 at Shelter No. 3 in Riverside Park. The longer routes are ride-your-own pace and riders may choose from a 20-mile loop to Jefferson, S.D., a 40-mile loop to Elk Point, S.D. or a 66-mile loop to Burbank, S.D. All riders return through Jefferson and North Sioux City. The 10-mile family fun ride follows Sioux City riverfront trails. Hot dogs, sodas and chips will be served at the end of the ride and all participants will be eligible for a variety of door prizes donated by local businesses. Proceeds will benefit Women Aware, a United Way of Siouxland member agency, to help displaced homemakers and limited-income families achieve greater emotional and economic stability.
