The All9Yards.com Bicycle Racing Team's four top racers finished the 9th Annual El Coqui Dorado Stage Race bicycle race in Puerto Rico August 18 through 20. The team consisted of Chad Vandelune, Des Moines, Lane Anderson, Altoona, Ralph Henderson, Denver, CO, and Andy Cornelison, Carlisle, IA, Cornelison placed third overall in the junior category and 28th overall among all entrants.Henderson was 6th in 30-39 and 33rd overall. Anderson was 7th in 30-39 and 37th overall. Vandelune did not make the final standings. Individual stage results show that Cornelison was 1st juvenile in stage 1; tied for 4th juvenile in stage 2; and 4th juvenile in the fourth stage [in the field, alongside Henderson]. In the team competition, of 23 teams starting, they were sitting 10th after the first stage, and finished 9th overall. "When Andy Cornelison joined the squad, our tactics changed quickly. With Andy's European experience this year and strength in long races, we all decided to work for him to keep him fresh for the finishes," said Anderson. "We didn't earn a victory, but our teamwork helped keep the race difficult for all of the racers. There were a bunch of 120-pound climbers that decimated the field every day and Andy did his best to stay with them." The All9Yards.com squad retuns this week and will be competing at the Iowa State Criterium Championship in Pella on Saturday. "This is the final race in the All9Yards Iowa Cup, we expect a huge turnout and fast racing in Pella for the overall prize," said Anderson. The All9Yards.com Bicycle Racing Team is responsible for over 16 bicycle races in Central Iowa every year including: Altoona Road Race (125 participants) Waterworks Park Circuit Race (115 participants) The 5-race Elkhart Time Trial Series (April - August, 300 participants) The 4-race Waterworks Park Fitness Festival (May - August, 300 participants) The 5-race Des Moines Cyclocross Series (September - October, 250 participants) marc hollander [original news article -
