The Central Iowa Sierra Club needs volunteers to participate in an invasive species workday from 9 to 11:30 a.m. May 6 at Ashworth Park. Volunteers will help pull garlic mustard, an invasive plant that crowds out native flowers and plants. Wear long pants, a long-sleeved shirt and work gloves and meet at the Bill Riley bike trail parking lot south of Grand Avenue on 45th Street in Des Moines. Call Jo at 276-6359 or e-mail johudson@qwest.net.
The Neal Smith National Wildlife Refuge needs volunteers to adopt a trail and check their assigned area twice a month during the spring, summer and fall. Volunteers will pull invasive species, plant native plants, remove branches across the trail and remove litter. Call Allan Murray at 994-3400.
