By TOM ALEX REGISTER STAFF WRITER September 15, 2005 Polk County sheriff’s authorities this morning charged a Baxter man with driving the car that struck and killed a Ankeny bicyclist this week. Jade Ryan Perry, 33, is charged with vehicular homicide and leaving the scene of an accident. Donald "Brian" Shaver, 45, died late Sunday from injuries suffered when he was struck in the 4200 block of Northeast 94th Avenue. A passing motorist found Shaver critically injured. He was still wearing his safety helmet. The bicycle, equipped with lights, was gone. Sheriff’s deputies found it in a creek bed about 16 miles from the crash site. Deputies said a "guilt ridden" Perry contacted them through his attorney earlier this week. Investigators say they intend to prove Perry was intoxicated when Shaver was struck. The vehicular homicide charge carries up to a 25-year prison term.
