The road to completion of the PlyWood Trail has been a long, winding one.
The Le Mars City Council was told of another twist in the trail during its Tuesday, Dec. 3, meeting. There are problems with some areas of Phase 1 of the trail from Merrill to Le Mars, City Administrator Jason Vacura said.
It’s too rough, Vacura said, and needs to be replaced. A discussion is being held to ask the contractor, the Godbersen-Smith Construction Company of Ida Grove, to pay liquidated damages — which is in the contract for incomplete or unsatisfactory work — of almost $100,000, while also making deductions in some of the construction costs. Those funds will be used to replace the rough spots, with another firm doing that work.
