After about a dozen years at the Iowa Events Center, RAGBRAI is moving its route announcement party to a new location.
The Register's Annual Great Bicycle Ride Across Iowa announced Monday that it will hold the traditional unveiling of the ride's cross-state July 19-26 route from the Missouri River to the Mississippi from 6-10 p.m. on Jan. 25 at Vibrant Music Hall,2938 Grand Prairie Parkway in Waukee. Earlier, it had said the route announcement party would be at the usual location at the Iowa Events Center.
The only exceptions came in 2021, when the route announcement was made in a livestream from Big Grove Brewing's Iowa City location near the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, and in 2016, when it was held at Capital Square, where RAGBRAI had its offices at the time.
