The Gear Avenue Trail ribbon-cutting ceremony is taking place at 9 a.m. today (Wednesday, Oct 30th 2024).
Participants are asked to meet on the trail where it leads into the Westland Mall parking lot, right by Dame Fine Coffee.
The project was made possible through the following grants and local match:
- Transportation Alternative Program (TAP) — $548,111
- State Recreation Trail Grant — $345,357
- Wellmark Foundation Funding — $100,000.
The 10-foot wide trail includes pedestrian cross improvements at several intersections.
The trail runs near a recreation complex, several schools, residential and commercial areas, and a senior housing unit.
