Eastern Iowa cyclist Larry Ritland is kicking off a 26-day trip to Texas to honor two women who served in WWII.

An Iowa man is starting a 26-day bike ride across the country to shine the spotlight on two women from Iowa who served during World War II.

Gleanna Roberts and Beverly Jean Moses were part of the Women’s Air Force Service Pilots or WASP program during the second World War.

76-year-old Larry Ritland will be riding his bicycle from Sharon Center, near Iowa City, all the way to the National WASP Museum in Texas to honor Roberts and Moses.

Both women were from Iowa and are among the 38 who died in the WASP program. Ritland hopes to remind people of their service and thinks people shouldn’t forget heroes like them.
