It’s official: Downtown Dubuque is now decked out with its first bicycle lanes, giving bike riders more protection and visibility as they pedal through the heart of the city.
The past week saw the bicycle lane pilot project come to fruition for sections of Ninth Street going downhill from Bluff Street to the east and a parallel section of 10th Street going back uphill to the west a block away. The two sections are connected by pavement marked for shared bicycle-car traffic going north and south on Main and Elm Streets.
Now all we have to do is get the motorists to be decent to the bicyclists.
