In less than two weeks, thousands of cyclists will be crossing Iowa for this year’s RAGBRAI.
The ride will go through Greenfield, as the community is still recovering from a deadly EF-4 tornado that tore through the town in May.
Greenfield was added to the RAGBRAI route just before that tornado hit, so organizers weren’t sure if the town could handle the traffic.
However, Gina School with the Greenfield RAGBRAI Planning Committee said they couldn’t turn down the opportunity.
When riders go through the disaster area, they’ll see the leveled properties, basements filled with debris, and photographs showing the neighborhoods before the disaster.
