A bicyclist suffered a brain bleed after being hit by a car in downtown Waterloo on Tuesday.

Waterloo Police responded to an accident involving a truck and bicyclist just before 1 p.m. The crash happened at the intersection of West Washington and West Sixth streets.

A police report stated Ruthie Frizell began to cross West Sixth in her Chevrolet Tahoe after her light turned green when Esed Abdagic biked into the intersection. Frizell hit Abdagic, and he fell to the ground.

He was taken to MercyOne by Waterloo Fire Rescue. The police report states he had to be sedated and intubated and was diagnosed with a brain bleed.

Police reviewed the traffic cameras and determined Abdagic was at fault for the accident, crossing the intersection while the “don’t walk” signal was on. Frizell was not charged.
