Even as springlike weather provides a much-needed boost to the spirits, it has Jesse Veenstra looking forward all the more to the first mile marker for the triathlon season: the Siouxperman Triathlon.

The 37-year-old Dordt University assistant professor of business administration is part of the team of organizers setting up the annual triathlon competition scheduled for Saturday, May 4. This will be the fourth one he has helped organize, bringing with him 12 years of experience participating in triathlons.

One of the things that makes the Siouxperman Triathlon popular is that it is newbie friendly and a good first triathlon of the year for more competitive participants.

“The structure of the race is very inviting to inexperienced triathletes. Many of the participants are first-timers who have never done a triathlon before.
