Sioux City council members are moving ahead with a recreational trail connection in the works for several years.
On a unanimous vote Monday, members awarded a $1.8 million contract for the construction of the Big Sioux Pedestrian Bridge Crossing. When complete, the pedestrian bridge over the Big Sioux River just north of Interstate 29 will connect Sioux City and Dakota Dunes.
Most funding for the project is already complete. The project was previously awarded a 7$7 million tourism grant from state of Iowa. The steel truss bridge is expected to be complete this fall.
