Two Sioux Center residents seeking to help youth start or grow their mountain biking skills have created a new Mountain Bike Skills Camp.

Experienced mountain bikers, educators, dads and camp counselors Derek Buteyn and Eric Tudor are leading the camp June 10-12 at Cone Park in Sioux City. There’s a three-day morning session or afternoon session for which students in sixth through ninth grades can sign up.

Individualized training in a small group, shuttle to and from Cone Park, healthy post-ride nutrition and a three-day premium mountain bike rental is included in the $195 registration fee. Groups will be limited to eight students per session.

One of the most frequently asked questions the duo has had about this new camp option is why create this option.

“The answer is simple really: We want to see more kids on bikes,” Tudor said. “We desire to build community, self-confidence, lifetime fitness, interpersonal relationships and a love for the outdoors through the sport of cycling.
