BMX racers and cycling enthusiasts will come together on Wednesday, February 21, 8AM, at Ewing Park, 80/35 Track Parking Lot, 1701 E McKinley Ave, Des Moines, to announce their plans to launch a capital campaign to fund an indoor public Olympic-level BMX track and cycling park in Des Moines. The indoor track will be a resource for community wellness and promote access to sports and recreation. Organizers and park users will outline the need and appeal of the project, which will mitigate current outdoor track issues such as standing water and erosion from exposure to the elements. Existing similar tracks require racers to travel more than four hours outside of Des Moines. Organizers will also discuss the community amenities that would be available at the facility once completed.
