The Iowa Bicycle Coalition (IBC) announced earlier in December they were going to visit nearly 99 local bike shops across the state to celebrate “Support Your Local Bike Shop Week” mid-December.

The event was to highlight local bike shops and their economic and community impact.

Executive Director Luke Hoffman said, “Small businesses like your local bike shop grow our economy and workforce by promoting tourism and quality of life. That’s why we’re starting Support Your Local Bike Shop Week by visiting the nearly 99 local bike shops across Iowa.”

Coalition board members, staff, volunteers, and supporters visited local bike shops across the state and posting to social media with the hashtag #IowaBikeShopTour.

On December 12, Matt Burkey, Safe Routes to School Program Manager for Iowa Bicycle Coalition stopped by Circle 8 Cyclery In independence. He spoke with Bill Versluis, member of the Buchanan County Four Seasons Trail Association, about a variety of bicycle topics – from the spring “Bike Rodeo” safety day to the upcoming RAGBRAI LI route announcement.
