The City of Coon Rapids and Carroll County Conservation are on the road to resurfacing Riverside Trail to make it smooth and safe as well as suitable for plans to connect with trail systems in Iowa, plus one that’s thousands of miles and crosses 15 states.

Riverside, a 2.68-mile, multi-use, recreation trail, was completed in the late 1990s, but the asphalt surface has turned into a rough ride with cracks and potholes.

Coon Raids City Clerk Jes Leighty and Main Street Coon Rapids Director Katie Mason recently won approval from the Carroll County Board of Supervisors to commit $75,000 toward the project. The City of Coon Rapids also has OK’d $75,000.

The project would grind out the old asphalt and put a concrete trail down in its place. That’s what Carroll County Conservation did this summer to resurface nearly 6 miles of Sauk Rail Trail between Swan Lake State Park and Maple River Junction.
