A recent dedication means a Great New Option for Indoor Cycling in the Des Moines area

Des Moines The Walnut Creek Family YMCA recently dedicated a brand new, state-of-the-art indoor cycling facility in honor of the late Dr. Bob Breedlove, whose accomplishments as a world-class ultra marathon cyclist are legendary. The newly-constructed 50 x 30 foot addition to the second story of the Walnut Creek Y features auditorium-style placement of thirty (30) brand new KEISER M3 spinning bikes equipped with individual computers which display and track cadence, heart rate, power in watts, calories burned, time, mileage and gear setting (1 through 24).The gear levers are precise and very easy to operate. The bikes are smooth and stable and adjust easily to all different body sizes and types. The pedals have toe clips and straps on one side and SPD cleats on the other. The spinning room features high ceilings, great lighting options, an excellent ventilation system, a wall of mirrors opposing the bikes, a huge corner window looking out over the adjacent woods and an awesome sound system. Twenty seven (27) spinning classes are held each week, including a 2-hour class on Sunday afternoon, and the room is normally open between classes for warm-up or extended rides. Help for new participants is readily available. Y membership or guest privileges are required for participation, however February is a great time to join due to reduced rates. For more information go to www.dmymca.org. and click on “Walnut Creek” or call the facility at 224-1888. The Walnut Creek Family YMCA is located just north of the 8th Street Exit (WDM) to I235. The address is 948 73rd Street, Des Moines, IA. 50312. Submitted by Bill Rosebrook.
