T-shirt sales proceeds allowed the Wabash Trace to purchase a special trail-sized trailer for maintenance.

Minoela IA Diligent effort and perseverance by Trasey Woods and Kim Sherlie and many others, who sold T-Shirts all summer paid off. The T-Shirts were designed by Cathy Solarana and sponsored by Bailey Lauerman, BBC, Xtreme Wheels, Minoela Steakhouse and Johnson Hardware. Many thanks go to the folks who helped sell t-shirts, the people who bought T-shirts and all the volunteers that keep the trail in good working order. "An extra special thank you should go out to Clint of the Mineola Steakhouse and Zach of Xtreme Wheels," according to Trasey Woods, "for both allowing us to sell shirts at their place and for helping so much with the process of getting the shirt sales going." "With Cathy Solarana, her coworkers and Trasey Woods, I was surprised and thankful with the great effort and perserverence from them to make this fundraiser such a success." according to Greg Losh, Southwest Iowa Nature Trails Board member. Following a summer filled with bad windstorms and rainstorms, crews worked many nights in a row to re-open the trail. The addition of the new trailer, specially sized to fit on the trail, will allow the crews to be able to fix storm caused erosion and allow for trail resurfacing on small areas, especially where large vehicles are prohibited. One added benefit of having T-shirts at the Mineola Steakhouse occurred when a participant who was sprayed by a skunk arrived. Another patron at the Steakhouse bought him a shirt because he smelled so awful, Losh added. The Wabash Trace Nature Trail is a converted railroad right-of-way running over 60 miles through the scenic Southwest Iowa countryside from Council Bluffs to Blanchard on the Iowa/Missouri border. The railroad tracks and ballast have been removed, and the trail has been resurfaced with crushed limestone. State agencies, individuals, families, businesses, and service organizations have donated the funding and labor to surface the trail, renovate bridges, and place benches and shelters along the trail and maintain the trail. Since 1988, Southwest Iowa Nature Trails Inc., The Iowa Natural Heritage Foundation and countless volunteers have worked hard to preserve the Wabash Trace Nature Trail for Public use and enjoyment.
