Tour de France 2008

The tour is on and Google Maps, Versus and other websites make it easy to feel a part 23 day race!
Making it's debut in 1903, The Tour de France hails as the world's largest cycle race. The 2008 Tour de France started in Brest France on Saturday July 5th. It is a 23-day, 21-stage bicycle road race over approximately 2,200 miles. The route traces a circuit around most areas of France, and often passes into neighbouring countries. The race is broken into stages from one town to another, each of which is an individual race. The time taken to complete each stage is added to a cumulative total for each rider, to decide the outright winner at the end of the Tour. In addition to riding RAGBRAI in 2007, the Tour de France is where Lance Armstrong made his claim to fame by winning the Tour de France a record-breaking seven consecutive years, from 1999 to 2005. He is the only individual to win seven times, having broken the previous record of five wins, shared by Miguel Indurain (consecutive) and Bernard Hinault, Eddy Merckx and Jacques Anquetil.
