• Our History

  The origins of Barr Bike & Fitness can be traced back to Ernest D. Kenyon, born 1865, who in 1891, started his own bicycle shop at 205 6th avenue, in Des Moines, Iowa, called "Kenyon Bicycle Manufacturing Company" The Bike Shop went through many a owners and at one time was called Byrd E. Moore Bicycles. In 1920 Mr. Moore sold the bike shop to Merton E. Barr who ran the shop until his death in 1956. Barr Bike was then purchased from the Barr Family by members of its staff and has continued the fine tradition of customer service ever since. Generations of Iowans have known and trusted Barr Bike for all their cycling needs.

  Now, the largest producer of bicycles in America is Cannondale. I just can’t say enough great things about this brand of bikes. Every detail on how the bike rides and handles is what Cannondale is all about. If you haven’t ridden a Cannondale frame in the last few years, you owe it to your self to see what you are missing. Cross bikes are very hot and with the predicted shortage this year Barr Bike has stocked up on the Raleigh Passage line of bikes. With bikes starting at $299.99 they are our best selling bikes. Compare and see why they are the hot bike trail bike this year. Recumbent trikes and recumbent bikes are what have made Barr Bike a destination shop for many in Iowa and Nebraska for 15 years. We carry only the best, Bacchetta and Wiz Wheelz. We love to talk the odd stuff and have a passion for the new and different.
