Cedar Rapids is a Bicycle Friendly Community and why shouldn't the businesses in Cedar Rapids be recognized as well?

The LeagueofAmerican Bicyclists recognized Cedar Rapids Water Department Administration Building, theCityofCedar RapidsCityServices Center, and theCityofCedar Rapids Central Fire Station with a Bronze Bicycle Friendly Business (BFB) award, joining more than 1,000 visionary businesses from across the country.

With the announcementof100 new and renewing Bicycle Friendly Businesses today, theCityofCedar Rapids joins a groupofmore than 1,050 businesses, government agencies and Fortune 500 companies in 47 states and Washington, D.C., that are transforming the American workplace.

The facilities all encourage bicycling as an easy option for transportation, and provide amenities such as showers and bike racks for employees. They alsooffer a bike share program, which enables employees to ride to meetings or over the lunch hour. Employees can also participate in the BikeCR Employee Bike Club, and are encouraged to actively participate in Bike to Work Week every year during the monthofMay.

Moving forward, all three facilities will have access to a varietyoffree tools and technical assistance from the League to become even more bicycle-friendly. To apply or learn more about the BFB program, visit the League online atwww.bikeleague.org/business.

TheCityofCedar Rapids was recognized in 2014 by the LeagueofAmerican Bicyclists as a Bronze Bicycle Friendly Community. Cedar Rapids was the first in the stateofIowato install green bike lanes, it will be the first in the state to install protected bike lanes (installation set for fall, 2015), and it was the second in the state to install in-street bike corrals.
