We are pleased to announce that All Ability Cycles in Jefferson have come on-board as a BIKEIOWA Sponsor.
All Ability Cycles carries some unique
bicycle brands as well as bicycles for special needs. They provide repairs, parts, and accessories in
support of riders using the RRVT.
The bikes and trikes offered for sale
are speciality products such as Draisin from Germany, Top End
Handcycles, Brompton folding bikes from England and cargo bikes from
Christiania, Royal Dutch Gazelle, and Nihola.
All Ability Cycles has no
mountain bikes, no road bikes, and no typical children's bikes. Central
Iowa has many good bike stores providing those items. All Ability
Cycles provides what those fine stores do not provide.

About the Owners
After almost thirty years of being away, Ces
and John Brunow returned to Iowa. Ces had retired from the Smithsonian
Early Enrichment Center in Washington, DC. John had sold his bike
store, bikes@vienna in Vienna, VA. They sold their home, and left two children in Virginia and Maryland. They returned to Iowa to be closer to John's parents in Centerville, IA. They chose Jefferson, IA for its central location in the Midwest, the gateway to the Raccoon River Valley Trail, the Cyclists of Greene, and the friends kept from years ago when Ces grew up in Jefferson.
They returned with a plan to open a new cycling business called All Ability
Cycles near the Raccoon River Valley Trail. All Ability Cycles? The
store provides cycling products to individuals with special needs and
people interested in using bikes and trikes for transportation.
They brought with them a passion for adaptive cycling. John had started
bikes@vienna, LLC in 1998 after years of working in the insurance
industry. He shaped the business to appeal to cyclists seeking
comfort. bikes@vienna, LLC specialized in recumbents. Recumbents,
especially recumbent trikes, are adaptable for riders with special
needs. bikes@vienna, LLC had visits from people and families in the Mid
Atlantic states seeking solutions. Closeness to Walter Reed Army and
Bethesda Naval hospitals brought military personnel returning from war
and seeking cycling solutions.
All Ability Cycles, LLC was
created to provide adaptive cycling solutions for people in Iowa and
beyond. Located on the southeast corner of the Jefferson square in a
2,200 square foot refurbished former theater, the store and work shop
are just three blocks from the trailhead of the Raccoon River Trail.
The store serves local cyclists, visitors from the RRVT, and people
seeking cycling solutions. The Brunows also travel extensively attending
events and meetings of advocate organizations for individuals with
special needs. Working out of a large van that John calls the
"Mothership" they provide test ride opportunities. They support the
mechanical needs of the Adaptive Sports Iowa team on RAGBRAI
John is active with the community of Jefferson, Greene County and promotes all activities on the Raccoon River Trail and the adjoining communities.
