Des Moines, IA The Bike Share Revolution is Here! Des Moines is just the fourth community in the USA to initiate a bike-sharing program. And, we're pretty darned proud. The Des Moines B-cycle pilot program officially rolled out at 5 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 1 with 18 bikes and 4 downtown kiosks. View map. If you’ve missed articles about popular European bike-sharing programs, here’s what it’s about: Des Moines B-cycle brings you closer to the Des Moines of tomorrow with safe, inexpensive ways to improve personal mobility and reduce urban congestion and pollution. Become a member and track your miles, carbon offset, calories burned, and transportation dollars saved. Think of bike-sharing as a Red Box for bikes. Become a member and pick up a bike where you need it. Run an errand. Meet your sweetie for lunch. Check out the Center Street Bridge, Then return to the same kiosk or drop off at another. The fleet bikes are designed for rides of 1 to 3 miles. In Denver and Minneapolis, the most popular use of the bikes is for the first and last mile of a commute that combines public transportation.
