Recap/Results

A BIG Thanks to Iowa Beverage, New Belgium, Mickey's Irish Pub, Mudders and the Kickstand for making this ride a blast!

A great crowd showed up for the first Fat Tire Fun Ride of the Season.  Yes - this was the longest Fat Tire Fun Ride to date.. and the Windiest by far. Those who made it to Perry had a great time... The ride home, however, was a toughy!

Free New Belgium Snapshot Taste Testing and Mickey's Breakfast burritos got the day rolling.

KUDOS to Iowa Beverage who brought out the Hammerschlagen!!  Ain't nothing like drinking Fat Tire and a few rounds of Hammerschlagen on a gravel road in Iowa!

KUDOS to the Rawhide Riders who showed up in FORCE and brought their A Game. Two cargo bikes with a bike blender and plenty of mixers made for another great stop!  Keaton, Dennis and crew. you guys Rock! See ya at the next one!

KUDOS to everyone who came out to play! Sorry 'bout the winds! The only thing that would have been better was tailwinds both ways!

Check out some photos below.

See you all at the next Fat Tire Fun Ride Sunday May 4th from the Wheelhouse in Ankeny to the Latitude 41 at Saylorville Marina.

Description

Party Ride

Distance - 21 miles - one way

ONE OF SEVEN

This ride is ONE of SEVEN Fat Tire Rides sponsored by  New Belgium Brewing, the makers of  FAT TIRE BEER, and Iowa Beverage.

We are switching it up this year to give some other bars, trails and businesses some New Belgium Luvin's.

Each ride will have a new Starting point, route and destination. Some rides will have entertainment lined up.

At the end of the Seven Rides we will have ridden on at least 12 different Trails through 16 towns and at least 20 bicycle-friendly establishments and probably met 100 new friends. Now that, my friends, is a good Summer of Ridin' !!

TEAM-UP

We are looking for one ore more bike teams to CO-SPONSOR this ride!

What do we need from you?  We need you and your friends to show up, have fun, drink some New Belgium goodness,  help folks get signed up to win the cruiser, be familiar with and ride the route, help other cyclists get from the starting point to the destination and back, and did we mention... HAVE FUN?!?

If your team wishes to co-sponsor this event email Biker@BIKEIOWA.com and we will list your Team here!

WIN A 2014 NEW BELGIUM CRUISER

New Belgium will be giving away a 2014 New Belgium Cruiser at the October "FAT TIRE FUN RIDE" which is the last ride of the series. You must go on one of the rides during the series to register to win.

TO WIN THE FAT TIRE CRUISER YOU MUST BE PRESENT AT THE OCTOBER RIDE AND SORRY THE PREVIOUS WINNERS ARE NOT ELIGIBLE TO WIN, BUT YOU CAN STILL PLA.

All ride dates and routes are subject to change due to weather and trail conditions.

Route

From Mickey's Irish Pub in Waukee, we'll take the beautiful Raccoon River Valley Trail's North Loop to Minburn for a short stop, the onto the Kickstand in Perry.

We Welcome new cyclists to these rides! If you are unfamiliar with the area, the route, etc,. Let us know and we will make sure you get there and back!

Mickey's Irish Pub has been a BIKEIOWA Sponsor a few years now and they have really gotten involved with the RRVT gravel-crossing paving project as well as the new Waukee trail-head art project.

The Kickstand in Perry is a new destination for us. I think we can tell they are bicycle-friendly by... uh.. the name of the place! We are looking forward to checking this place out!

Make a weekend of it.  Stay in Perry at the Hotel Pattee, Camp or rent a Cabin at Sportman's Park near Dawson and ride to Waukee that morning and come back to Perry with the Group. On Sunday, ride the other part of the North Loop, or check out the nearby High Trestle Trail. There are some other B&B along the RRVT Trail too.

Event

Started out as a great ride and as the ride back to waukee began yes we did encounter some nasty wind that wasn't in our favor. But in all good biking spirits it's was all worth it in the end . Hope to see more on all the remaining rides as they are all shorter in distance ;)

FTFR Newbies - just to let you know, you can start when you want to, but figured a more realistic "leave" time for the group will prob be 11:15-ish...
