Des Moines' original bicycle poker run is back for another exciting year of secret checkpoints. The first checkpoint will be revealed as the race begins, subsequent checkpoints will be revealed along the route. Racers will be dealt one playing card from the top of the deck at each checkpoint, building the best poker hand possible from the cards collected. Don't know much about poker? No problem! There will be an adviser at the finish line to help you optimize your hand. There will be trophies for the fastest finishers in several categories and fabulous prizes for the best poker hands.I'm very excited to announce that Saints Pub + Patio in Beaverdale is the home of Cyclo de Mayo 8. The race will begin and end at the same place for the first time this year.
Arrive at Saints Pub + Patio BEFORE NOON to get registered and checked in, even if you register online in advance. The event will start at the usual time, 12:34pm, on the second Saturday in May, May 10th, 2014. The course will be open until 3:14. You must make it to the finish line before then to be eligible for poker prizes.
The categories are the same as usual as usual: Fastest Overall, Gal, SS/Fixie, Bagger, and, of course, Card-Carrying AARP member. If you enter the AARP category, you must have your card with you. I might add some other category as the big day gets closer. No need to select your category right now; that can wait until race day.
