Road (RACE)
Distance - 0.7 per lap- Timed Criterium
The annual Johnston Green Days Criterium Bike Race will be held Saturday, June 19 with races beginning at 1 p.m. The start/finish line for the race will be on the north end of Pioneer Parkway in Johnston.
Profit from the race will be donated to the general fund of the Iowa Cycling Development Foundation that supports junior riders through age 22. Through mid-June 2010, the Foundation has donated more than $4,000 to support Iowa’s junior riders.
This year's trophies have been created by Resource Revival and feature a shiny-double chain ring with an engraved award plaque in the center. There are also a variety of gift certificates as primes and awards.
The race includes events for riders of all skills and abilities, and is considered an ideal race for beginning racers. The course is approximately 0.7 miles per lap, very flat, with two 180 degree turns at each end.
There will also be official races for junior competitive riders (ages 10 through 14, and 15 through 18), as well as “kiddy races” for the future racers under age 10. All kiddies will receive medals.
For experienced racers, there are both masters-age and category races, providing an opportunity for some riders to “double-up” and race twice. New this year is a separate awards category for Women age 40+ racers.
This race has great viewing of nearly the entire course, and is very family friendly with areas of shade surrounding the course.
