Description

Adventure Race

Distance - less than 100 miles

Cyclo de Mayo is back for another fantastic year! Des Moines' most exciting bicycle poker run will again take participants through a series of secret checkpoints all over the city of Des Moines. The first stop will be revealed at the starting line. Race officials will deal cards to each participant at every checkpoint. Use the cards to build the best poker hand you can. There will be awesome door prizes for the best poker hands and trophies for the fastest finishers in several categories. (Don't worry, I've got a plan to streamline the never-ending awards ceremony. It's gonna be WAY shorter.) Cyclo de Mayo takes place on Saturday May 15th. Riders will hit the road at 12:34pm sharp, so get to Shorty's before noon to finalize your registration and get to the starting line, which will also be at Shorty's. El Bait Shop marks the location of the finish line and the awards ceremony and, I hope, live music from Dave Bess of Public Property. All money raised will go into the Joan Gill Memorial Fund until it can be spent on a memorial gazebo on the Great Western Trail. I will add categories and a list of door prizes as that information develops. Check back often! Categories: Fastest Overall Fastest Guy Fastest Gal Fixie/SS Bagger Guy Bagger Gal Card carrying AARP member Out-of-Stater TBA Prizes include a handmade journal, lighting kits, bike hoist, emergency cell phone chargers and more!

Route

Race will start downtown at Shorty's and proceed through a series of secret checkpoints all over Des Moines. Checkpoints will be revealed as needed. The finish line is at el Bait Shop.
