Distance - 55 Bike 22 run (with a 4 mile extension option)

Triple D is a winter endurance race that traverses Dubuque County in the dead of winter by bike, ski or foot. What makes this race different from other marathon distance races? Winter racing isn’t just about being in shape, it’s about mental toughness. You must be properly prepared to handle the extremes of winter weather for hours on end. Racers will spend many hours in all sorts of extreme winter weather. The race is closly monitored, but no outside assistance is allowed.

Route

Not an easy event (only 4 have finished in the last two years). event is held regardless of the weather (in 2008 it was -10, in 2009 it was +20 and sunny). For the runners and Skiers the entire route is "downhill" on Heritage Trail (a Rails to Trails system). The last 2/3 rd's of the bike race also follows the Heritage Trail. The first 1/3 of the bike route is mixed terrain from city bike paths to private snowmobile trails to Level B roads.
