Are you an East Coaster?
Hope so! The Des Moines Bicycle Collective and Iowa State Bank are sponsoring a bicycle coasting contest on the East Walnut Street hill, beginning at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 29.
We'll crown the East Coast king, East Coast queen, East Coast prince, and East Coast princess.
We think these are the primary variables: weight, tuck position, riding a straight line, adjustment of hubs. But who knows? We haven't sponsored an event like this before.
Bring your bike and see how far you can coast down the hill. We'll have the following categories and will make up more categories as necessary:
- Mountain bike/comfort bike/new cruiser/hybrid
- road bike/tri bike/skinny tire
- Vintage fat-tire coaster
- recumbent
- tricycle
- big wheel
- touring
- tandem
- BMX
Spoke card designed by Bob Skidmore (see logo) will be given to the first 100 registered riders.
