The 1st annual Des Moines Dirty Duathlon was held on Sunday, November 5th in Des Moines by Ashworth pool in Greenwood Park.

Tank tops and shorts were seen during the race with the unusually warm weather in early November!

Cyclists and runners used the Center Trails and the Bill Riley trail to complete almost 15 miles on the race course.

The contestants had to run a loop at Greenwood Park before mounting their bikes for a 6.4 mile trail ride. They then had to run 4.5 miles before finishing with a final 3.5 mile trail ride.

Bikers scramble to their bikes during the opening leg of the Des Moines Dirty Duathlon, the first annual race that combines trail riding and cross-country running.

Cam Kirkpatrick, from Urbandale, crossed the finish line in Greenwood Park, the winner of the first annual Dirty Duathlon.

Mountain Biking (RACE)

Distance - 6 mile mountain bike; 4.5 mile run; 3.5 mile mountain bike

Des Moines' first-ever off-road duathlon, presented by IowaDiscountHomes.com and hosted by Central Iowa Trail Association and Capital Striders, is a non-profit venture supporting trail development in central Iowa. This is an off-road race on the singletrack Center Trails -- 6 mile mountain bike; 4.5 mile run; 3.5 mile mountain bike. If you're a cyclist but not a runner, consider entering the Relay category with someone who complements your skills. Find a Relay partner in the bikeiowa.com forum!

Race is 90% singletrack -- narrow, twisting dirt trails. Course map online at www.centraliowatrails.org

Register Online here at bikeiowa.com through Oct. 31 or at the event. Categories... Age group (Teen, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50+) Relay (one runner and one cyclist) Team (time will reflect two fastest among registered members) Tandem (two people with one bicycle)
