Lance Armstrong will retire at the end of this year's Tour de France. What he has done on and off the bike is remarkable. His courage has given me and many others strength and HOPE in the battle against cancer.
When I was diagnosed with Lymphoma on 12-31-02, my doctor knew I was a cyclist. I wanted to get going with the chemo treatments because I planned on riding RAGBRAI that summer. At his suggestion, I read Lance's first book. Lance's personal experience with cancer and his continued work with the cancer community did and continues to enable me and many others to Live Strong.
As a way of saying "Thank You" to Lance for what he has done, I will be wearing yellow on 7-24-05, as I head across Iowa on RAGBRAI. Whether Lance wins the Tour or not, he deserves to be recognized for what he has done. I invite you to join me in this tribute by wearing yellow on 7-24-05. Just think how cool a Yellow RAGBRAI Peloton would look.
So many people have had some type of experience with cancer. What a wonderful statement it would be if most people in our country wore yellow on 7-24-05.
So, if you so choose, spread the word to your cycling buddies, RAGBRAI teams, family, friends and enemies. The color of the day on 7-24-05, is Lance Yellow.
