Bad news!

It was not an easy decision, and it gives me no pleasure to tell you that Cyclo de Mayo XIV.II has been postponed. We are looking ahead to the next Second Saturday in May, this time May 14, 2022, at the usual times. I could give any number of reasons, but the biggest consideration for me is always safety. Des Moines still has group gathering limitations in place for public property. The same order specifically notes that any such events must have a COVID mitigation plan in place and approval from the city manager. Cyclo de Mayo has neither. Although much of the event takes place on private property, almost all of the Checkpoints are in public spaces, especially the legendary Checkpoint 7. It’s very important to me that Cyclo de Mayo is a safe, high-quality event. Unfortunately, that means we are left with no choice but to postpone until next year.

Good news!

This year's progress on planning is now a super early rolling start for planning Cyclo de Mayo XIV.III, which will be May 14, 2022. I'm pretty sure the course theme will still be outdoor murals, so start scoping them out now. I'm very lucky that my sister, Erica, is also a well-seasoned event planner, and she has offered to take a larger role in the planning and execution, an offer I gladly accept. She's made some great improvements to the event over the years, and she has lots of cool ideas to make Cyclo de Mayo even better than before. We have set the goal of completing most of the planning by Groundhog Day to ensure that Cyclo de Mayo XIV.III goes off without a hitch.

To Wade and Captain Roy’s, I want to thank you for stepping up as race headquarters and making Cyclo de Mayo feel so at home. Captain Roy’s is a great place for a bike race, and I really hope we can give it another go in May 2022. To the volunteers, I kindly thank you for the many years you’ve returned to help make the event what it is. I hope you'll all come back for a third try at the same iteration of the race. You know what they say: Third time's the charm!

Route

The route will again be a series of seven secret checkpoints somewhere in our fair city. Checkpoint 1 will be revealed at 12:32PM,  just before the race begins. Subsequent checkpoints will be revealed during the course of the race. Expect to ride about 20 miles, depending on your navigational choices. Remember, you'll be choosing your own route based on your knowledge of the city and the maps provided at each Checkpoint.

Registration

Discounted Early Registration: Feb 3, 2021 - Mar 31, 2021.  A great value at $30!

Early Registration: April 1, 2021 - April 30, 2021. $35.

Regular Registration: May 1, 2021 - 11:59 pm May 6, 2021. $40

Race Day Registration: May 8, 2021 11AM-12:15PM. $50.
