From Iowa Natural Heritage Foundation (Aug 2022)

The development of this trail extension, connecting Monroe, Prairie City and Mitchellville, is part of the long range goal of linking Saylorville Lake north of Des Moines with Lake Red Rock and Neal Smith National Wildlife Refuge. 

The segment between Monroe and Prairie City was completed in August 2022 and is now open to the public! More funding is needed to complete the segment connecting Mitchellville and Prairie City.

The Red Rock Prairie Trail runs a on former rail corridor from Monroe to the Mitchellville city limits.
