Hooked on Pattee Cakes
Posted Apr 13, 2014

Scott Olsen, Bob Wilson and I were having a beer in the Urban Lounge after the
Bike Tourism Conference
on Thursday, April 10th when hotel owner Jay Hartz walked up and saw I was drinking a
Black Butte Porter
by Deschutes Brewery. He said "You gotta try one of these"...
We didn't know quite what he meant, but he left and he came back shortly with a box of cupcakes and pointed to one that was made with Black Butte Porter.
We come to find out that the
Hotel Pattee
hired a pastry chef to added some pastries to their food line-up. These cupcakes are called "Pattee Cakes" and they just rolled out a few flavors and sold over 600 in a week!
Now, I like my porter beers AND I like sweets... especially dark chocolate. I held back temptation until I got home that evening until I dug into the one made with the porter. One word "OUTSTANDING".
The Pattee Cake was a dense flavorful cake with a mound of even more flavorful frosting. The cake was semi-dry, but the frosting melted in your mouth which was a perfect match. I pretty sure I would have had to of biked 50-60 miles to work off the calories of one of these "Pattee Cake" gourmet cupcakes, but... it was worth it.
So.. there you have it... We just did our first review ever on a "cupcake".
Yep. We didn't that that would ever happen, but as circumstances had it, we were in the right place at the right time.
Stop in and have one (or two) your next time through
Perry
