The 49th edition of the Register’s Annual Great Bicycle Ride Across Iowa will pass through many towns in the Storm Lake area, but not Storm Lake itself.
On Monday, July 25, which is Day 2 of RAGBRAI, riders will pedal through Galva, Schaller, Nemaha, Newell and Fonda on their way from Ida Grove to Pocahontas.
The ride starts July 24 in Sergeant Bluff and ends July 30 in Lansing, covering 462 miles of Iowa countryside. The meeting town on Day 2 is Newell. Each day, one of the pass-through communities is designated as a meeting town for riders.
Those towns are indicated on the support vehicle map, including the routes into the meeting towns that drivers may use to meet their riders and enjoy the hospitality of the local residents.
Meeting towns are usually near the midpoint of the day.
The Des Moines Register, which sponsors the ride, touts the Popcorn Capital of the World as Day 2’s highlight: “Look closely at the cornfields around Schaller and you may see the makings of buttery popcorn.
