Johnson County’s Clear Creek Trail is set to be upgraded with two projects in Coralville and Tiffin seeking to extend the trail as far as Kent Park and connect the two parts of it at the I-80/I-380 interchange.

The Johnson County Conservation is handling the first project, which will extend the trail west for about 2.7 miles from Half Moon Avenue in Tiffin to Kent Park. The Coralville and Iowa Departments of Transportation are working on a second project that will bridge the gap in conjunction with the I-80/I-380 interchange Presently the work of highway crossing is going on a large scale.

The Clear Creek Trail is one of the essential recreational opportunities in the Iowa City area for cyclists, joggers, roller skaters, and dog walkers. The eastern side of the trail runs 8.9 miles through Iowa City and Coralville and connects to the wider Iowa City Trail System. But the trail is currently bifurcated because of the major I-80/I-380 interchange, cutting off the western side of the trail at Tiffin.

On either side of the interchange, the trail hits a dead end in a sea of ??construction that will likely last until 2025.

While the eastern trail connects to the wider Iowa-City trail system that links most of downtown and North Liberty along the 13-mile Iowa River Corridor Trail, the western portion of the trail that runs through Tiffin Dead ends at Half Moon Avenue.
