An 82-year-old Danville woman known by many for her love of cyclinghas died of injuries suffered as the result of a collision with a dump truck near Old 34 Gas & Grill in Danville.

June Darlene Judd was taken by helicopter to the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics Tuesday afternoon for treatment of injuries suffered from the accident, which occurred at about 2:15 p.m. Tuesday near the intersection of Old U.S. 34 and 125th Street, according to the Iowa State Patrol.

Juddhad been headingeast in the outside lane of the old highway as a Mack dump truck being driven by Marvin Jon Roy Creelman, 73, of Burlington, was traveling the same direction in the inside lane.

According to ISP, Judd, who often wore a bright-colored vest to make herself visible to motorists, began to veer left and into the other lane. Seeing Judd heading toward his vehicle,Creelman crossed the center line in an effort to avoid her. Judd, however, continued into the inside lane and struck the dump truck.

The collision forced Judd from her bicycle.

Deputies with theDes Moines County Sheriff's office and EMS first responders were called to the scene, along with the Iowa State Patrol, and Judd was life-flighted to the Iowa City hospital. She died there Wednesday.
