The Iowa Transportation Commission has approved $1 million for five recreational trail projects across the state, including two involving Central Iowa’s popular High Trestle Trail. The funding comes from the State Recreational Trails Program, created in 1988 to help develop and maintain recreational trails and trail-related facilities for both motorized and nonmotorized vehicles and users. The funding is available to cities, counties, state agencies and nonprofit organizations. Projects that were approved for funding during the commission’s meeting Tuesday are:
High Trestle Trail Extension to Oralabor Road in Ankeny - $295,060.
Raccoon River Valley Trail to High Trestle Trail Connector Phase IV construction in Dallas County - $201,618.
Flint River Trail-Bluff Road Connector in Burlington - $165,000.
Little River Scenic Pathway, Phase I in Decatur County - $161,800.
Tatonka Ska Trace Rail Trail, Phase III in Dickinson County - $176,522
