The Iowa City Bicycle Master Plan indicates both Governor and Dodge streets between Burlington and Bowery streets for buffered bike lanes to complete the north-south access for cyclists. However, an August public meeting involving residents and cyclists had staff unsure how to proceed.
At its Tuesday work session, staff presented a series of options that range from extending the lanes by five feet to leaving the streets the way they are. After deliberating on the options, councilors directed staff that their preference is eliminatingon-street parking and implementing a buffered bike lane on Dodge Street. For Governor, they preferredto keep the parking and instead have a shared lane with pavement marking and signage.
