What is the Grant Park Trail?
The Grant Park Trail is an ongoing community project that will connect the City of Auburn with Grant Park. This beautiful trail will provide easy access to all of Grant Park’s activities, including camping, fishing, hiking, canoeing and even kayaking! We love our community, and we need your help to create our dream.
The Grant Park Trail is a way for communities to connect, businesses to flourish and families to thrive. With a focus on environmental education and habitat preservation, the trail will be a safe-haven for those looking to explore the splendor of our community and enjoy the great outdoors. Walk, bike, ski, run, jog, or even plan a picnic on one of the trail’s scenic stop-offs – there’s no better way to enjoy Iowa’s natural beauty.
The idea for the Grant Park Trail isn’t a new one – in fact, members of our community have been working to create the trail for over 50 years! After a variety of unsuccessful attempts due to difficult terrain and design challenges, the dream for the trail was resurrected in the fall of 2015. Property owners, local farmers, businesses and organizations all banded together to express their support for the Grant Park Trail, and our voices were heard! After many years of determination and planning the Grant Park Trail project is finally underway.
What will it look like?
The Grant Park Trail will be 1.5 miles long and 10 feet wide. Restricted to non-motorized bicycles and pedestrians, this hard, surfaced pathway will allow ample room for all visitors to enjoy their time on the trail. Wildflowers, statues, benches and scenic views will make the trail as fascinating as it is functional. In short – it’s the trail we’ve always dreamed of!
