South Sioux City cut the ribbon for the Atokad Trail.
It extends 20 miles of flat trails to 22 miles connecting the pocket areas of South Sioux City.
The Atokad Trail is half a mile long and was funded by the Federal Highway Commission and Dakota County.
South Sioux City Mayor Rod Koch said this is only the beginning and that he wants to connect trails as far as South Dakota.
"In this community, there's a lot of people that ride bikes and they walk on these trails, so it
serves a dual purpose of recreation and also for a practical purpose of children that walk to school to be safe," Koch said.
There are trails that go through the tri-state area.
