An Emmetsburg cyclist is dead, and another was hurt, in an accident this afternoon north of Emmetsburg.
The accident happened on County Road N-40 at about 1:30pm, Tuesday afternoon.
The victim, 36-year-old Luke Rouse was cycling south, in the outer portion of the lane, alongside 33-year-old Lacey Rouse, and her 4-year-old son, Hank.
Iowa State Patrol investigators say 83-year-old Duane Anderson, of Estherville, Iowa, was driving south on N-40. Investigators say Anderson was adjusting a mirror on his van, and didn't see the cyclists, and hit them.
Luke Rouse was knocked into the west ditch, and was pronounced dead at a local hospital. Lacey Rouse was knocked down, and injured, in the accident.
His wife, Lacey Rouse, and son, Luke, were taken to Palo Alto County Hospital in Emmetsburg.
